Released in 2022, Lessons in Chemistry is the debut novel from author Bonnie Garmus and was an instant hit with book fans. The novel follows chemist Elizabeth Zott in the 1950s and into the 1960s. Zott is a headstrong woman with agency and a sharp sense of humor who is trying to make her way in a male-dominated field. When she meets the man who she falls in love with, she has no plans to be a regular housewife.

However, when a terrible accident leaves Zott alone with a daughter to raise, her story changes completely. She becomes the host of her own cooking show and commands a female audience who welcome her non-patronizing, progressive style of work along with her scientific approach to cooking.
