The Marvels Carol Danvers

The latest addition to the MCU – The Marvels – has been out for a little over a week now, and while it’s certainly not setting any records at the box office, it has been received moderately well by critics and fans. Part of that is due to Brie Larson in the leading role as Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel herself, and the good news is that it seems like Larson might be coming back for more.

In an interview with ET, Larson said that there’s “so much more to go” for the character she portrays, even hinting that Captain Marvel could return in future films in the MCU. When asked what the future holds for Carol Danvers, Larson said that something was on the horizon, but couldn’t expand on that too much for fear of Marvel’s wrath.

"I don't want Marvel to come for me," Larson told ET, "but there is something. There is definitely something, to answer your question, that I would want to say, but I am not going to."

Larson said that she was happy to see Carol Danvers portrayed in a way that didn’t put the whole world on her shoulders, as in her first two appearances in Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel.

“I loved her letting the shoulders drop a little bit, and not need to feel like all the responsibility was on her,” Larson continued, “So I think that there is just so much more to go. She is just a great character to continue to grow with. It’s like, as I am growing, she is growing.”

Many have speculated about where Danvers – and other Marvels, like Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel – could show up next in the MCU, with no clear avenue for the characters’ return. Some have suggested she may make an appearance in Captain America: Brave New World, the final film of the MCU’s fifth phase, or help kick off phase six in Fantastic Four.

Rumors have been swirling about the latter in recent weeks, with Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby having been rumored to appear in Fantastic Four in leading roles. The Thing, Galactus, and Human Torch actors have also been rumored for the film, but so far no reports have been outright confirmed.

There’s plenty of time for that to work itself out, though, as Fantastic Four isn’t set to be released in cinemas until at least 2025.
