Brie Larson's Captain Marvel Won't Look Like Many Female Superheroes We've Seen

Marvel revealed the costume for Brie Larson's Captain Marvel at San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday, and it looks exactly like what a Skrull-kicking superhero needs.

A lot has come out of Comic-Con this weekend: a Stranger Things season two trailer,, confirmation that a Wonder Woman sequel is coming, and the second-season trailer for Riverdale. It's basically been a weekend full of exciting reveals and surprises. But there's one more in store: At the convention on Sunday, Marvel revealed the costume for Brie Larson's Captain Marvel.

And can we just talk about how this outfit actually looks like a practical superhero costume? There's no risk of a gust of wind blowing up a skirt mid-kick, no chance of a boob falling out of a low-cut bodice as Captain Marvel dives forward to slay a Skrull (the alien shape-shifters she'll be fighting). Instead it's form-fitting (a matter of practicality in the superhero universe), comes with flat boots for sprinting, and has what looks like a handy utility belt (instead of Captain Marvel's usual sash) perched on her hips. Basically, Hollywood doesn't seem to be trying to sexualize or femme-ify the hell out of Captain Marvel just because she happens to be a woman.

Of course, this is what Captain Marvel has traditionally worn (minus the sash/belt swap), but y'know, Hollywood takes creative liberties sometimes. And while female superheroes can obviously wear whatever they want, it's just nice the costume team is sticking with practicality here. After all, try showing up to a boxing class in a corset, tennis skirt, and armored thigh-high boots: It's not gonna be super-comfy.

Take a look at the concept art showing the costume—Larson posted pics on her own Insta here.

Also, fun fact: Apparently the film will be set in the '90s. We can't wait to see Captain Marvel in action in March 2019, which is when the film finally hits the big screen.
