From The Pioneer Woman

Shonda Rhimes's first project with Netflix is a candy-colored adaptation of Julia Quinn's Bridgerton Family series. Here's what we know so far about the steamy, scandalous period romance set in Regency England.

Julie Andrews will voice the character of Lady Whistledown.

The Hollywood legend will serve as the voice for an anonymous gossip writer who "uses a curious mix of social commentary and scathing insult to send the season of 1813’s town into an all-out frenzy."

It's unclear if we'll ever see Andrews on screen, or if only her voice will be part of the show à la Kristen Bell in Gossip Girl.

The show will simply be known as Bridgerton.

"Based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling series of novels, this smart feminist take on Regency England romance unveils the glittering, wealthy, sexual, painful, funny and sometimes lonely lives of the women and men in London's high society marriage mart as told through the eyes of the powerful Bridgerton family," reads a summary.

While it is part of the Shondaland slate brought in by Rhimes, Chris Van Dusen, who was a writer on Scandal, will actually be the one to adapt and showrun the series.

It will come out on December 25, 2020.

A Merry Christmas indeed. Watch the first trailer up top. And first full-length preview here:

Quinn's popular novels center around a 19th-century British family.

The Bridgertons have eight alphabetically named children (Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth), and the stories focus on their experiences finding true love.

"In some ways, portraying a healthy relationship in literature is the most revolutionary thing you can do," the author previously said.

The series will feature a large cast.

Given the large family at the center of the story, that only makes sense.

Phoebe Dynevor will play Daphne Bridgerton; Regé-Jean Page will play Simon Basset, and Golda Rosheuvel will portray Queen Charlotte. Other cast members include Jonathan Baily, Luke Newton, Claudia Jessie, Nicola Coughlan, Ruby Barker, Sabrina Bartlett, Ruth Gemmell, Adjoa Andoh, and Polly Walker.
