Bride-to-be killed in tractor-trailer accident during her own bachelorette party
A bride-to-be has died and two other women are fighting for their lives after they were thrown from a tractor that overturned during a bachelorette party in Austria, England’s Mirror newspaper reports.
Jasmin Schwarnthorer was celebrating with her best friends ahead of her October wedding to fiancé Bernhard.
The 26-year-old was standing on a tractor-pulled trailer, which was driving her away from her family’s farm in the Austrian town of Allhartsberg when the tragic accident happened.
Her 25-year-old brother, Patrik, was reportedly driving the tractor around a corner when the trailer suddenly flipped over while 14 women were standing on it.
According to reports, Schwarnthorer hit a stone wall in her fall and was taken by helicopter to a hospital in the city of Linz. A few days later, she succumbed to injuries to her head and chest.
Five other women were also severely injured, while seven others were treated for minor injuries. Schwarnthorer’s niece and one of her friends remain in critical condition.
According to local media reports, the trailer flipped over when the tractor swerved to avoid a cyclist.
Police are reportedly investigating its driver, Patrik, for involuntary manslaughter. The trailer had just one axle and was not built to carry people. According to local reports, there is concern that he may have been driving the tractor too quickly around the corner where he encountered the cyclist.
“The transport was illegal,” police chief Johann Baumschlager said. “The vehicle can only be used in agricultural operations or in the forest.”
Schwarnthorer was dressed in her wedding gown at her memorial last week.
“Why do we have to accompany Jasmin today on her last journey and not to her wedding?” the pastor conducting her memorial reportedly asked mourners.
