Bride is ‘devastated’ when she catches restaurant serving her wedding cake to another party: ‘I don’t know whether to laugh or cry’

A bride was heartbroken when she realized her wedding cake had been given away to a group of strangers, and TikTok is furious on her behalf.

Celeste Geren (@celeste0203) gained over 907,000 views, 91,000 likes, 3,000 saves and 2,300 comments when she shared the wedding cake disaster to her account.

While we’ve seen wedding fails go viral before — like the groom whose “disgusting” wedding vows set off red flags all across TikTok, or the wedding photographer who noticed something horrifying about the bride’s ring when they reviewed their photos — Celeste’s video is serving as a cautionary tale to any bride holding their reception dinner at a restaurant.

In the video — filmed just after Celeste’s reception dinner, as evidenced by her bridal gown and veil — the newlywed struggles to explain what exactly happened to her.

“I don’t even know how to explain this,” she says. “The restaurant that we were at for our wedding dinner gave our wedding cake to somebody else. And I literally watched them cut it in front of me. … I just assumed it was somebody else’s cake.”

According to Celeste, that morning she and her mother-in-law dropped off the wedding cake at the restaurant. However, at the time of drop-off, the cake was topped with flowers that matched her bridal bouquet; by the time it was being served to the table beside them, the flowers were gone — which gave Celeste pause as she watched the cake being served.

“They cut up and served our wedding cake to probably some prom group, and I sat there thinking, ‘No, [that’s] not our cake.'”

In a follow-up video, Celeste revealed the cake her party was given — a cake apparently belonging to someone named Jackie.

In another update, Jackie clarified that she in no way blames Jackie or her group — and that the blame lies solely with the restaurant. She also made clear that the bakery was in no way at fault.

According to another follow-up video, Celeste specified that the cake box had been clearly labeled with their last name and the time of their reservation. But as soon as the party arrived at the restaurant, it was clear something was amiss.

“The first red flag when we got to the restaurant was that they had difficulty finding our reservation,” she says in the video. “Second red flag was that we had specifically reserved outdoor seating … They told us that you can’t reserve outdoor seating.”

When Celeste’s mother-in-law explained that she had made the arrangements with a particular restaurant employee, they were informed that that person no longer worked there.

“So we end up waiting for a while for them to shove some tables together in a corner,” Celeste continues.

“While we’re standing upfront waiting, that’s when I witnessed this cake being cut. I didn’t recognize that it was my wedding cake being cut, because the flowers weren’t on top of it.”

Despite these red flags, the wedding party persevered and managed to have a happy celebration.

At one point in the evening, Celeste and her new husband stepped outside to enjoy a quiet moment together. But the private time was interrupted by Celeste’s mother-in-law, who regretfully informed the couple of the wedding cake error — all while holding the “Jackie” cake.

“At this point, the waitress was already in tears,” Celeste recalls. “It was not her fault, she was not the one who was cutting it. … It was a very devastating moment.”

According to Celeste, the restaurant tried to make up for the major cake mix-up by taking the cost of the cake out of the party’s final bill. They also gave Celeste the other group’s cake, along with the manager’s business card (who wasn’t working the night of Celeste’s wedding) in case they wanted to give them a call.

“We’re good sports,” Celeste says. “Our family are good sports about this kind of thing. I cried for a moment, [my husband] was angry for a moment. His family ended up calling me ‘Jackie’ for the rest of the night.”

Since sharing her story, many TikTokers have wondered why Jackie and her party ate a cake that looked nothing like theirs, a mystery that Celeste cleared up in another follow-up video.

“Because [Jackie’s] reservation was a surprise birthday party that she didn’t know about, she didn’t know what her cake looked like. Only one person in her whole group had an idea of what the cake was like. And our cakes were similar.”

She goes on to explain that Jackie’s party had been mistakenly seated at Celeste’s wedding table, where her wedding cake had already been unboxed and placed — giving them the impression it was Jackie’s birthday cake.

All of this intel was obtained after Jackie saw Celeste’s original video and got in contact with her.

“Absolutely not…”

TikTok was absolutely furious on Celeste and her husband’s behalf, and felt the restaurant didn’t do enough to make up for the huge mistake.

“the risk of someone having allergies to either cake when swapped! holy risks batman!!! 😳😳😳” commented @03mustangmomma.

“Absolutely not, they should have covered your entire bill completely AND given you cash or visa gift card with the entire cost of the cake on it,” wrote @hamburger0688.

“That manager should have been calling you not the reverse!!” wrote @snaffy500.

“The fact that they had two big reservations with cake, one being a wedding, and the manager was not there to oversee it all is a big 🚩” commented @shinybeetle.

While many TikTokers have begged Celeste to reveal the name of the restaurant, she has only given slight hints, opting instead to speak positively of the many good vendors she worked with.
