For all the Curse of Strictly rumours, the BBC's flagship dancing competition is one that maintains sportsmanship and propriety over all. That is, however, until comedian Brian Conley was sent home from the show

BBC producers were forced to cut a bizarre outburst from Conley when it was announced that he was leaving the competition after scoring a mere 16 of 30 potential points for his leaden-footed jive on Sunday night.

Some of Conley's speech survived the edit, but TV viewers were spared the Cockney's assertion that the Strictly studio toilets had been installed cheaply and that Darcey Bussell was “the horny one”.

According to The Sun, Conley leapt on the judges' podium to declare that “They only spend £25 on the toilet”, and to cast aspersions on the proclivities of the former Prima Ballerina. He did, however, praise his brother, who is Strictly's stage manager.

A source told the paper: “There’s no way we could include his comment about Darcey. No one knows where it came from and everyone was incredibly shocked, but luckily Darcey saw the funny side of it.”

After the show, Conley told The Sun that he didn't regret his outburst, explaining: “I was having fun and the toilets here are terrible.”

Conley was beaten in the dance-off by Saturday Brunch host Simon Rimmer. He later posted a video to Instagram with dance partner Amy Dowden to say thank you to his fans for keeping them in the show for five weeks.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.35pm on BBC One.
