Brendan Fraser Reveals Whether He'd Return for a Fourth 'Mummy' Movie

Brendan Fraser is opening up about reprising his role in a fourth The Mummy film.
In a recent cover story with Variety, the actor revealed that he would be open to the idea of a another film. The original put him on the map with his defining role as adventurer Rick O’Connell.
“I don’t know how it would work,” he told the outlet, adding, “But I’d be open to it if someone came up with the right conceit.”
Director Stephen Sommers mentioned that he cast Fraser because “he could throw a punch and take a punch and he had a great sense of humor." He continued, “you really like the guy. He never comes across as cocky or arrogant.”
Sommers mentioned that the actor was always down to handle his own stunts, noting, “he was game for anything we threw at him."
Fraser last starred in The Mummy in 2008's Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Tom Cruise ended up taking the actor's place in the Universal reboot in 2017.
“It is hard to make that movie. The ingredient that we had going for our Mummy, which I didn’t see in that film, was fun," he said referring to the 2017 film. "That was what was lacking in that incarnation. It was too much of a straight-ahead horror movie. The Mummy should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary.”
“I know how difficult it is to pull it off,” Fraser added, noting, “I tried to do it three times.”
These days, the actor is stirring up considerable Oscar buzz with his role in The Whale. The film follows Fraser, an isolated writing instructor who is struggling to reconnect with his daughter, Ellie, played by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink.
The film marks the actor's return to Hollywood following a lengthy break, along with his first leading role since the 2013 film, Breakout.
The Whale will be released theatrically in the United States on Dec. 9.
