The business of making waterproof outerwear is a tricky one, and different technologies have been developed throughout history. Waxed jackets from brands like Barbour and Flint and Tinder are durable and stylish but heavy, while slickers (like the one worn by the Gorton’s iconic fisherman) repel water well but aren’t breathable.

But like most The North Face products, the brand's rain jackets strike that perfect balance between stylishness and effectiveness. The iconic Antora Jacket is made with a proprietary DryVent technology that offers waterproofing and breathability. Right now, the jacket is available in a wide range of colors for less than $70, so up to $43 off the original $110 price.

The three-piece hood is cinchable and zips up to the chin for added protection from the elements. Flaps on the front and sides of the jacket keep water from seeping into the zipper or pockets, and the hem is also cinchable. There are two zippered hand pockets for secure storage.

The jacket has a DWR finish that blocks rain and is also windproof. The DryVent technology releases moisture, preventing clamminess under the jacket, so it’s well suited to rainy day hikes. Plus, the jacket’s lining is mesh, adding breathability and keeping the outer fabric from clinging to your skin and clothes. The outer and mesh lining are recycled, and the DWR finish is PFC-free for a lighter environmental impact.

Shoppers appreciated the waterproof performance and breathability, with one writing that it “does not leave you damp.” Another called it “super breathable and lightweight” while it kept them “dry in heavy rain.”

The jacket is also versatile in varied climates. One shopper who lives in Northern California wore the jacket “during the winter months when we get cold rain and winds.” Another found that it “really holds up” against “rainy Florida weather.” Additionally, one shopper wrote, “It kept me dry while visiting Norway in the fall and was lightweight enough to stuff in my day pack with little issue.”

There are eight colors of the North Face Antora Jacket available for less than $70, and one for $77, but sizes are selling out quickly in all colors. You’ll want to act fast to nab this affordable, lightweight rain jacket in time for spring showers.
