Brandon Leake Won 'America's Got Talent' Season 15 and Viewers Are Losing It

From Good Housekeeping

The results are in, and the winner of America's Got Talent season 15 is spoken-word artist Brandon Leake.

After months of competition, Brandon ended up winning over the most votes in the end, beating out an impressive roster of contestants such as vocalist Archie Williams, aerialist Alan Silva, and the acrobatic Bello Sisters.

From Brandon's very first audition, judges Simon Cowell, Sofía Vergara, and Howie Mandel were blown away. Right off the bat, Brandon made an especially strong impression on Howie, who ended up giving him the golden buzzer for his powerful poetry.

Brandon's momentum then continued into the quarterfinals and semifinals. After scoring enough votes in the live shows, Brandon ultimately landed a spot in the finale. For Brandon's final time on the AGT stage, he performed an emotional spoken word piece about his daughter that left viewers at home in tears.

When Brandon was declared the winner of the NBC competition show, viewers at home seemed super excited. "Well deserved! Brandon is the real winner of this season, period! #agt," one fan declared. "Brandon Leake is a phenomenal performer. I would pay to see him do spoken word," another said."Congratulations to BRANDON LEAKE!!! So hype that a poet and teacher won #AGT!!! You love to see it!!!" a different fan tweeted.

That said, there were some AGT fans watching at home hoping Broken Roots, who finished in second place, would take home the title instead, and they did not hold back. "I am so over this competition. Broken Roots was so talented and deserved to win. I have watched this competition for years and this is absolutely the most disappointed I have ever been. I will not waste my time again," one fan tweeted. "Broken Roots or Archie should've won. Period," another tweeted.

Regardless, Wednesday's finale marks the end of another season of America's Got Talent. As for what's next for Brandon, he'll be given the opportunity to headline a show in Las Vegas, though it's possible the coronavirus pandemic may complicate things for the time being. Still, as host Terry Crews announced on Wednesday, Brandon will still be awarded the $1 million prize.

What an exciting end to a very unconventional year of AGT. Best of luck to Brandon in the days ahead — we're sure he'll continue to soar and inspire.
