Quick question: Who gave hairstylist Sasha Griffin permission to shut the braiding game down today? Whoever you are, I'd like to personally say thank you, because this half-up, half-down stitch braid situation looks regal as hell. Not only are stitch braids an effective protective style that can stay intact for weeks, they're a pretty versatile braiding method—so it's really no shock that every new take on this look is better than the last. On today's episode of The Braid Up, you'll watch some fresh stitch braid magic be made. Feast your eyes!

1. Nourish your scalp. Protective styles are great for encouraging natural hair growth, but only if you take care of your scalp while wearing them. Cue: You massaging a few drops of moisturizing castor oil into your scalp to prevent dryness and create a healthy environment for hair to grow.

2. Detangle smarter, not harder. When it comes to detangling, using the right products and tools will make all the difference. Enlist the help of a leave-in cream to give your hair extra slip and a detangling comb or brush (like the ones below) to nix knots without causing breakage.

3. Protect your style while you snooze. Bonnets are clutch for keeping your braids from getting all fuzzy while you sleep, but they're not the only options out there. I personally love silk-lined caps and hoodies for my protective styler

4. Don't forget about sheen. You know that satisfying feeling when your braids are *finally* done and your stylist spritzes them a finishing spray? Good news—you can recreate that moment at home by adding a sheen to your product lineup and using it daily.
