Brad Pitt won best supporting actor at Sunday night’s Golden Globes for his turn as aging stuntman Cliff Booth in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. But Pitt also won the Globes as a whole—an evening, an entity, a boozy vegan banquet televised for our international enjoyment.
For years Pitt was almost an avatar of himself, a character in a tabloid soap opera (his splits from Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie; reports about his substance abuse). But he’s been coming slowly back into the public eye after some distance from his personal trials. (He’s been open about going to AA after his 2016 split from Jolie.) On Sunday night Pitt was back in the (golden) flesh, at a schmaltzy industry event and as a nominee no less. From his Cary Grantish red-carpet choices to some very public bro-ing with Leonardo “LDC” DiCaprio, Pitt brought big, capital-M Movie Star energy that made the generally bizarro Globes feel worth it. How did he win the night? Let us count the ways.
When he was almost uncannily hot
Pitt made his eternal attractiveness known from the moment he stepped on to the red carpet outside the Beverly Hilton in a classic tux, black sunglasses, and a mullet only he could make attractive. By virtue of his existence, Pitt was just letting the world know that, at 56, he’s still mythically gorgeous and probably will be forever. (Mathematically, if he’s been mainstream-hot since at least Thelma and Louise in 1991, Pitt has been hot for at least 29 years and counting.)
When he name-checked “LDC” and made a Titanic joke
After winning best supporting actor and earning a standing ovation, Pitt engaged in some highly public bro-ing and revealed his fratty nickname for costar DiCaprio: “I also have to thank my partner in crime, LDC.... He’s an all-star, he’s a gent. I wouldn’t be here without you, man. I thank you.” Mad love between Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Tristan from Legends of the Fall? Teens of the ’90s love to see it.
But Pitt didn’t stop there. Instead, he closed out his LDC ode with a Titanic reference, saying, “Still, I would have shared the raft,” nodding to the longstanding internet argument that there was more than enough room on Kate Winslet’s floating door for Leo.
Pitt’s charm offensive continued as he joked about the breathless coverage of his love life: “I wanted to bring my mom, but I couldn’t because any woman I stand next to, they say I’m dating,” he said. “It would just be awkward.” Of course the Globes saw fit to pan to Jennifer Aniston during his acceptance speech, even 15 years after her relationship with Pitt ended. Sigh. (Earlier in the night, on the red carpet, he told ET he’d likely run into “Jen” and called her a “good friend.”)
On Twitter, some later noted that Pitt did not close his speech with a thank-you to his six children with Jolie, which may have been a conscious decision, as it surely would have invited a massive amount of scrutiny. Pitt didn’t thank his white jeans from Once Upon a Time either, and they surely deserved an honorable mention.
“Hey, if you see a chance to be kind to someone tomorrow, take it,” Pitt said before exiting the stage. “I think we need it.” Was this moment utterly moving for anyone else? I’m sure it has nothing to do with the aforementioned hotness.

Former NBA guard Darius Morris has died at the age of 33. He played for five teams during his four NBA seasons. Morris played college basketball at Michigan.
With free agency and the draft behind us, what 32 teams look like today will likely be what they look like Week 1 and beyond for the 2024 season. Matt Harmon and Scott Pianowski reveal the post-draft fantasy power rankings. The duo break down the rankings in six tiers: Elite offensive ecosystems, teams on the cusp of being complete mixed bag ecosystems, offensive ecosystems with something to prove, offenses that could go either way, and offenses that are best to stay away from in fantasy.
It’s key to note that we’re not saying the “best team” or “best roster.” Instead, we’re talking about the best confluence of factors that can outline a path for survival and then success.
Teams have made their big splashes in free agency and made their draft picks, it's time for you to do the same. It's fantasy football mock draft time. Some call this time of year best ball season, others know it's an opportunity to get a leg up on your competition for when you have to draft in August. The staff at Yahoo Fantasy did their first mock draft of the 2024 season to help you with the latter. Matt Harmon and Andy Behrens are here to break it all down by each round and crush some staff members in the process.
