Boy adopts cat with the same rare condition

Madden is 7 years old. He was born with a cleft lip and complete heterochromia iridum — a condition where the iris of one eye is a different color than the iris of the other eye. Guess who shares the same unique condition? Moon the cat!

Madden’s mom, Christina Humphreys, saw a picture of Moon on social media and knew her son and the sweet kitty were destined to be best friends. She shared their story to “Love What Matters.” Humphreys wrote, “I think it’s safe to say that this kitty is love, and was certainly meant to be part of our journey and Madden’s journey.” That journey took Madden and his mom from Oklahoma to Minnesota, where the family adopted the adorable cat.

Humphreys has created an Instagram account to document Madden and Moon’s adventures. The besties also hope to raise awareness and teach others about kids with cleft lips. Humphreys said, “Everyone needs a friend, and everyone needs to feel understood. I’m so thankful Madden has Moon. Not only so that both he and the kitty have a relatable and sweet companion, but also, I hope Moon helps Madden realize that being born unique is an incredible thing; that he is magic.”
