Boutique bed-and-breakfast reopens in downtown SLO after major remodel. Take a look inside

A boutique bed-and-breakfast in downtown San Luis Obispo has reopened after a major remodel redesigned its rooms and expanded its offerings.

Petit Soleil, located at 1473 Monterey St., reopened under new management in mid-March. The 17-room mini hotel was bought by Good Lion Hospitality, under the leadership of husband-and-wife team Misty Orman Ristaino and Brandon Ristaino.

The pair at the time said they had “desired and dreamed of opening or acquiring a boutique hotel with a focus on cocktails.”

They elected to remodel the existing bed-and-breakfast — and the adjoining Splash Cafe building — to play up its “European charm and quaintness.”

The remodeled establishment features a cocktail garden with fire pits, elevated mini-bars in the rooms and a “cozy Parisian-style courtyard where guests can enjoy a complimentary house-made breakfast and curated aperitif hour,” the Ristainos said in a news release.

On Tuesday, the business had an official grand opening ribbon cutting to celebrate the renovation and welcome guests to the property.

“We’ve just relaunched with our new design, and we’re happy to show it off to the community,” Misty Orman Ristaino told The Tribune during the ribbon cutting.

More is still coming for Petit Soleil. In the coming year, the business is expected to unveil its next phase of renovation, including a new cocktail bar and restaurant in the former Splash Cafe space.

“We’re super excited about it,” Brandon Ristaino said of the project that would also add four new suites on the top floor of the restaurant building.

The pair said the cocktail bar and restaurant are expected to open Jan. 21, 2025.

Beyond that, the Ristainos also have other plans to further integrate Petit Soleil into the San Luis Obispo community.

“We have plans to activate the courtyard, hold pop-ups, wine tastings, host winemakers, possibly local vendors that have something like arts and crafts or jewelry that they want to sell,” Misty Orman Ristaino said. “A lot of fun ideas coming.”
