Should women shave their faces? 'Botched' star Dr. Terry Dubrow says yes

Dr. Terry Dubrow and Dr. Paul Nassif are experts when it comes to plastic surgery, but that doesn’t mean they don’t know their way around a drugstore aisle.

The “Botched” stars shared their favorite affordable skincare products this week, including one unexpected shaving tool for women’s faces. Believe it or not, Dr. Dubrow says women can actually benefit from shaving their faces.

“The reason men’s skin tends to age a little bit better than women’s is not the basic nature of the skin differences, it’s that we shave,” explains Dr. Dubrow. “Shaving is a form of exfoliating that really allows the skin to come off and regenerate.”

Use a face wash with benzoyl peroxide.

Dr. Dubrow says one of the most common skin conditions among adults is adult-onset acne, which causes intermittent breakouts. “Most of that is due to a bacteria called the acne bacteria,” he explains. ”If you use simple benzoyl peroxide as a wash, that gets rid of 85 to 90 percent of it.” Since the acne-fighting ingredient can be drying, he says to look for a low-level benzoyl peroxide in the form of a face wash.

This formula from Differin contains 5 percent benzoyl peroxide, which is less irritating and won’t dry out skin. The deep-cleaning gentle formula removes dirt and oil while releasing a nourishing moisturizer that won’t clog pores.

“Everyone has to wear an SPF of at least 30,” adds Dr. Nassif. He says you should reapply your sunscreen every two hours throughout the day, especially if you’re active and in the sun a lot.

This formula is lightweight and oil-free so you don’t have to worry about clogged pores. It’s also made with hyaluronic acid and essential ceramides to keep skin’s moisture barrier intact.

Lastly, Dr. Dubrow says men’s skin tends to age better than women’s simply because they shave regularly.

“Shaving is a form of exfoliating that really allows the skin to come off and regenerate,” he explains. “So believe it or not, women could actually do kind of a form of shaving that would help their skin.”

Gently exfoliate and remove fine hairs with these easy-to-use razors from Schick. The blades are designed with microguards that help protect skin while comfortably removing peach fuzz and buildup.
