Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Game Lasts Seven Hours

It broke the record for the longest postseason game in history...and fans couldn't deal.

Tension was at an all-time high on Friday, October 26, as the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers went up against each other in game three of the World Series. But as the night went on, the stakes kept getting higher and higher. The two teams were neck-and-neck for hours, eventually making the match the longest postseason game in baseball history. And, friends, the fans could not deal.

According to The New York Times, the Red Sox vs Dodgers game went on late into the night, lasting for seven hours and 20 minutes — phew! It ended in the 18th inning after the 561st pitch was thrown (yes, you read that number correctly). According to ABC7’s Veronica Miracle, the concession booth even reopened to offer fans nachos, coffee, and ice cream while the two teams continued to bat it out. (No pun intended. Actually, nah, pun definitely intended.)

Fans pretty much went bananas as the game reached the sixth and seventh hour, breaking into the early hours of the morning. One fan tweeted, “We’re now at the point where our ‘10 o’clock news’ is going to end sometime after 4am.” Producer and photographer Meredith Frost quipped: "I cannot remember a time before this game started." Another joined in on the fun by writing, “Watching an 18 inning game is helping me realize what a nine inning game feels like to someone who doesn’t like baseball,” while someone else joked that they'd pretty much be a skeleton by the time the game wrapped up.

In the end, sometime after 1 a.m., the Dodgers took home the victory, beating the Red Sox 3-2. It was a night straight out of High School Musical 2, minus the sporadic dance numbers and Chad Danforth/Ryan Evans rivalry, of course.
