• A Lucifer fan theory suggests Ella Lopez is going to hell in season 5 of the Netflix show.
• Netflix recently announced Lucifer's fifth season, coming out in 2020.
• The final season will have a total of 16 episodes.

Netflix recently gave Lucifer fans the ultimate gift. It announced that it’s not only bringing the beloved show back for a fifth and final season, but that it also added six more hours of programming. That means the final season will have a total of 16 episodes, not just the 10 it originally announced. The only bad news is that we have to wait until 2020 to watch it.

While we patiently await the new season, we can all at least argue over which fan theories will pan out. Though there are a plethora of great hot takes out there on what's going to happen in season five, this one may be our favorite: Ella Lopez is going to hell.

Ella is one of the most beloved and kind members of Lucifer's crew, so it could be hard to believe she ends up in hell, but hear us out. At least, hear out reddit user Sent_Angel_Of_Death, who came up with this bonkers-yet-rather-plausible theory. As the Reddit user points, season four ended with Lucifer returning to hell to prevent the demons from coming to Earth—sacrificing his love for Chloe in the process.

"It begs the question, how do we get Lucifer back to Earth," Sent_Angel_Of_Death wrote.

Here's the essence of the Lucifer fan's theory:

Ella’s lost faith sends her to hell.

As true Lucifer fans know, Ella struggled with her own faith in season four. This could lead to an interesting situation where Ella is both faithless and willing to do anything. Sent_Angel_Of_Death suggests the following could happen:

“What if in the first episode there is an incident where Ella is forced to make a choice to save someone she loves or even a scene where she decides to take revenge after her brother (who was the diamond thief in a previous season is murdered), but with this sacrifice or act of revenge she commits a sin worthy of damning her to the underworld."

As the theory goes, when Lucifer finds out, he assumes it must be a mistake. Lucifer believes his friend Ella got a raw deal, just as he did when his father cast him out of heaven. Lucifer flies Ella back to Earth and begins both their battles for redemption.

Archangel Michael comes to punish them all.

However, there has to be a little conflict somewhere, right? Sent_Angel_Of_Death proposes that will begin with Archangel Michael. As you may or may not remember from Sunday School, Archangel Michael was the leader of the army of God against Lucifer’s rebellion.

Per the theory, Michael sees what goes down with Lucifer and Ella and is upset, as he feels it may throw off the natural order of life. So, he heads down to Earth with the goal of “sending Ella back to Hell where he feels she belongs.”

However, this is Lucifer we’re talking about, so of course, there will be a twist.

Archangel Micheal becomes the new Devil.

Sent_Angel_Of_Death believes Michael will try to kill Lucifer, Chloe, and Ella. However, Michael loses his cool during Lucifer’s final moments and berates him for everything that’s gone wrong. This action quickly backfires and turns Michael into the new Devil.

“Similar to the ending of season 3, where Cane tells Lucifer he cannot outrun what he has done and what he really is, it is Michael [whose] eyes grow red with anger as fire engulfs his face as his pure hatred for Lucifer and his ‘defiance’ is finally revealed. Ella, Chloe, and Lucifer die,” Sent_Angel_Of_Death wrote.

Lucifer ends up in the Silver City after all.

In this fan theory, the final scene begins with Lucifer waking up in a field of flowers and colors unlike those that exist on Earth.

“As he starts to pull himself together, you see a hand enter the shot embracing his hand and after a peculiar look on his face a single tear falls from Lucifer's eye,” Sent_Angel_Of_Death added. “Lucifer turns to see Chloe by his side in the meadow. Chloe doesn't seem to be startled by where they are, but this is not a place Lucifer was familiar with before the war with God, but he doesn't care and they become very emotional that they are somehow still together.”

In the end—according to Sent_Angel_Of_Death—they all end up in the Silver City together. They imagine Ella appearing by Lucifer and Chloe's sides and asking if they are ready.

“Before they walk through, Chloe turns to Lucifer and says, ‘I love you Lucifer.’ He responds by saying, ‘You have always been my one true love, but my name is Samael.’ The three walk through and the series is over.”

Anyone else have chills? Sorry writers, but if it doesn’t actually end this way you’ve failed us all.
