The Bold Bob Sweeps the 2018 Oscars Red Carpet: Margot Robbie and More
Margot Robbie, Saoirse Ronan, and Greta Gerwig debut bold new haircuts at the 2018 Oscars
Tonight may be Margot Robbie’s first Oscar nomination (for Best Actress in I, Tonya), but judging by her look on the red carpet, you would never know it. Dressed in a romantic white Chanel haute couture dress, the Australian bombshell was every bit the veteran movie star, accentuating her sweeping off-the-shoulder neckline with a freshly shorn bob.
It was just yesterday that she stepped out at the Independent Spirit Awards in a sleek collarbone-grazing version of the cut. But this afternoon, her platinum lengths appeared to have lost yet a few more strategic inches and were gently bent at the ends, leaving them hovering an inch above her shoulders.
Not far behind, fellow Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan debuted a bone-straight abbreviated chop of her own, which lined up precisely with her chin and appeared as crisply executed as her pink Calvin Klein dress. And proving three’s a trend, Ronan’s Lady Bird director, Greta Gerwig, another first-time Academy Award nominee, took the plunge with her own new chop: a micro-bob that accentuated the line of her striking cheekbones and the drama of her plunging mustard Rodarte gown. As Coco Chanel once said, “A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.” With big stakes on the table and the clock counting down, here’s hoping the shears bring good luck.
