Body positivity is the hottest trend at Australia Fashion Week

Guys, I seriously think a body revolution is coming our way. If you haven't heard, a little over a week ago, France placed a ban on all "excessively skinny" models to combat the negativity within the industry. Now, the fashion industry down-under is taking similar steps to ensure the runway is a safe space. This week is Australia Fashion Week, and We Are Handsome decided to do something unheard of: cast real, athletic women with no modeling experience to walk down the runway. Katinka Somers, the company's co-founder, explains:

Their collection is called "Active Swim," and focuses on pieces for just that: swimming and working out outside. So it's only fitting that the women who wear the pieces embody all the ideals of the range. They are real, they are fit and they are working to help others be the same.

As an added bonus, these women are social media savvy too. For instance, Amanda Bisk (gymnast, high jumper and pole vaulter) has over 284 thousand followers on Instagram. They are also Yogis like Kate Kendall and Sjana Earp, and ballerinas like Juliet Burnett, who expressed her gratitude for this movement over on her Instagram, writing:

This idea isn't just a marketing gimmick. It's a philosophy that We Are Humans applies to their traditional models as well. Somers explains:

Don't worry, the purpose of all of this isn't to shame being skinny. We Are Humans knows that women come in all shapes and sizes. It's just that, for some reason, the only bodies being praised are ones that many worry are unhealthy and unattainable. Instead, they want to shed light on healthy women who don't fit the skeletal (and sometimes scary) norm of the industry, and to make a statement that something needs to change.

This is important to remember when we read our magazines and buy our clothes. What you see photoshopped in front of you isn't how it has to be. Fashion is only fashionable if it's healthy, and loving yourself will never go out of style!
