Bobby Pins Go Couture at Christian Dior

The days of hiding your bobby pins in your hair are officially over. Guido Palau, the global creative director for Redken, gave models messy buns and deep side parts for the spring 2016 Dior couture runway, brushing hair to the side and securing it with a simple bobby pin.

For many years, I felt that bobby pins were to remain a secret when I was doing my hair — they held everything in place but no one had to (or should) see them. Of course, that changed for a bit in the 1990s, when colorful clips and pins adorned with butterflies were made for showing off, but the classic bobby pin still remained fairly hidden. Leave it to a hair genius like Palau to turn the simple tool into something cool enough to be seen.

“It’s a little bit punky, like how one might really just quickly throw her hair into a little knot, and all her layers are just hanging out,” he told WWD of the easy style he created for runway. Rolling out of bed and sliding in a bobby pin just got a whole lot chicer.
