Bobby Flay is causing quite the stir with his latest Super Bowl recipe. The Food Network chef just shared his take on guacamole — a classic football-watching snack — and fans are seriously divided on if his recipe is genius or downright disturbing. (There is no in between.)

“Everybody loves a good guacamole, and mine only has 5 ingredients!” Flay wrote on Instagram today. He also revealed his controversial opinion: “But the plum tomatoes have got to go, @isabelleonardny. #SorryNotSorry #SuperBowl.” *Cue record scratch.* Wait, what? No tomatoes in guacamole?! It’s a travesty!

Five Ingredients

In the video, flay reveals his five ingredients, which include avocado (duh), green pepper, cilantro, and more — but absolutely no tomato in sight. “Here’s the deal. You see this right here?” he asks, as he holds up a juicy red tomato toward the camera. “I love plum tomatoes. It does not belong in guacamole. I will debate this forever.”

After dropping this controversial opinion (seriously, who hurt you Bobby?), he says his friend Isabelle Leonard likes tomatoes in her guac too. “It’s not right,” he says, adding that it “muddles” the flavor.

“You want your guacamole to be like just about the avocado and enhanced,” he continued.

The Comments Are Divided

His bold stance caused a ripple in the comments section, with many people fiercely disagreeing with the chef’s opinion.

“Nope ! I am from Mexico and you have to put tomato in, guacamole is with salsa bandera or Pico de Gallo (flag salsa) wich is the color of the Mexican Flag Green(jalapeño & cilantro) White(white onion) Red (tomatos) ✔️” one person wrote.

Someone else commented, “I beg to differ. Need some finely diced tomato and some garlic.”

Leonard even commented on the video, agreeing to let Flay leave out the plum tomatoes…on one condition. “LOL #sorrynotsorry 🍅 tell ya what my friend, I’ll trade ya the plum tomatoes for some tomatillos! Deliciosooooooo,” she wrote. Later she clarified, “still need SOME kind of matoooo.” Couldn’t agree more!

Others actually defended Flay. “I will never put tomatoes 🍅 in my guacamole! I make mine with exactly the same ingredients as you…classic🥑,” one person wrote.

“Tell ‘em Bobby! No tomato in the guac🤌🏼,” someone else said. Another quipped, “That tomato got Slayed and Flayed.”
