Bobbi Brown shared exactly how to use each shade of her iconic Jones Road Miracle Balm.
“I’m in my mid-60s, I don’t know what I would do without this product,” she said.
The versatile formula can be used as a skin tint, blush, and highlighter.
Bobbi Brown’s Jones Road Beauty Miracle Balms have disrupted the makeup scene over the last few years. Since their launch, Brown has expanded the shade range from four to 12 colors, allowing each to serve a specific purpose for different skin tones. In a new video, the makeup artist explained exactly how to use Miracle Balm and offered tips for application for every shade.
In general, the Miracle Balms are an enhancement, a problem solver, and a lifter, Brown said. “If you’re someone who is of a certain age and you feel like you’ve been not looking your best, you’ve been looking tired, when you put this on, it automatically makes you look better. And usually, by the way, when you look better, you start feeling better.”
Below is Brown’s guide to wearing her hero product—plus, how you can layer them to get an angelic natural glow.
Jones Road Miracle Balm skin tints
Miracle Balm in Dusty Rose
Miracle Balm in Tawny
Miracle Balm in Sunkissed
Miracle Balm in Bronze
Miracle Balm in Cocoa Bronze
Tints essentially give the face a healthy wash of color. Dusty Rose is “great for women who have fair to medium skin,” Brown said. Tawny is her personal go-to, she added, as the deep mauve is ideal for those who have olive-yellow skin tones and want to counteract it. “There’s enough red in it, so it just looks like a combination of bronzer, tint, and blush,” she said. “It also looks great on the lips.” Sunkissed she uses all over when she “want[s] to look healthy, like I have a tan.” Bronze is great for those who have red undertones, because it helps “cut the redness,” she said. Lastly, there’s Cocoa Bronze, which works great on medium to dark skin tones as an all over tint—it can even be used on the lips.
To apply the skin tints, Brown suggested using your fingers to blend it into to your cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin.
Jones Road Miracle Balm blushes
Miracle Balm in Flushed
Miracle Balm in Miami Beach
Miracle Balm in Pinched Cheeks
If you’d rather not apply the balm all over, opt for one of the blush shades. Flushed is the “most beautiful pink” that some people also use on their lips, Brown explained. “I use it on top of Tawny.” Then there’s Miami Beach, which is more of a peachy coral, and the newest blush shade is Pinched Cheeks. “It sits somewhere between Dusty Rose and Flushed,” Brown explained. “It’s great for very fair to dark skin tones.”
Jones Road Miracle Balm highlighters
Miracle Balm in Magic Hour
Miracle Balm in Golden Hour
Miracle Balm in Happy Hour
Miracle Balm in Au Naturale
Magic Hour is a cool-toned highlight with silvery hues, and Golden Hour is like its “warm sister,” Brown said. The latter shade is great for people with dark skin or those who prefer bronze tones, she explained. The newest highlighter shade is Happy Hour, a frosty pink. “As a mom of three boys, I never got to do the pink thing... I love sequins, I love ballerinas, I love tulle. So, Happy Hour reminds me of that.” Lastly, Au Naturale is colorless, for those who don’t like sparkle. Instead, it uses its emollient texture to give the high points of the face—cheekbones, bridge of the nose, forehead, cupids bow—a lit-from-within gleam.
Jones Road Miracle Balm application tips
The shades you choose may determine how you apply your balm, but Brown cleared the air by saying you can really put it wherever you want. For a natural, full-face routine, however, you can use one from each category—a tint to start, a blush on the cheeks and lips, and a highlight on cheekbones. If you have oily skin, Brown recommended putting your balms of choice over a light veil of loose powder. On the flip side, they float effortlessly over and hydrate dry, mature skin. “I’m in my mid-60s, I don’t know what I would do without this product,” she said.
