Consumers who recently purchased Bobs Evans Italian Sausage are being urged to check their products from the brand following a recall made last week. According to an announcement on the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website, approximately 7,560 pounds of Bob Evans Italian Sausage one-pound chubs may have been contaminated with pieces of thin blue rubber.

The products being recalled include those with lot code XEN3663466, a “USE/FRZ BY” date of 11/26/22, and a time stamp between 14:43 and 15:25.

The recall announcement states that FSIS was made aware of the contamination after receiving complaints from various consumers who discovered the rubber pieces in their sausage.

"The problem was discovered after the firm notified FSIS it had received consumer complaints reporting thin blue pieces of rubber in the product," the announcement made on October 21 reads. "There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider."

For those who have purchased the recalled products, FSIS asks that they not consume them and throw the products away or return them to the place of purchase.

This month's recall comes just four years after a similar incident involving Bob Evans products. In September 2018, a total of 46,000 pounds of pork sausage links were recalled due to contamination (pieces of clear, hard plastic). And just last year, 4,000 pounds of Bob Evans Italian Sausage were recalled due to concerns that the product contained bits of "extraneous materials."
