Boa Vista’s Wavepool Costed $320 Million; Here’s How it Works.

The current belle of the wavepool ball is Boa Vista Village.

Located near São Paulo, Brazil, it's a whole development with a hotel, condos, a golf course, restaurants, and more. The price tag for membership? $100k.

As for the pool, it’s been dubbed by many as the “best wavepool” currently on the scene. And for good reason. Multiple sections for tubes or airs, high-performance capabilities, impossibly perfect barrel sections, and more. But how does it all work?

In a press release, Cláudio Neves Ourives, CEO and Managing Partner of Penetron Brazil, a waterproofing technology, took us behind the curtain:

“One of the highlights of the Boa Vista Village is the state-of-the-art American Wave Machines pool, one of the largest of its kind in the world. Utilizing the patented ‘PerfectSwell’ technology, this wave pool recreates a beach environment far from the coast with waves large enough to attract surfers.

"Underlying the wave pool and wave-generating machinery is a reinforced concrete basin. It's this concrete structure that must withstand constant contact with water – an ideal application for PENETRON ADMIX, a crystalline waterproofing admixture that has successfully been used in similar wave pool applications around the world."

Before describing the “PerfectSwell” technology from American Wave Machines – manipulating air pressure to create ocean-like waves – the press release goes on to ensure that the facility is built to last…so expect to see more of it.

"Because Penetron-treated concrete is much less permeable and more resistant to moisture and chemicals, the Boa Vista Village wave pool is going to last a long, long time," he said.
