From Good Housekeeping

  • Blume collectible dolls come in flower pots that "sprout" when you add water to them.

  • Good Housekeeping first spotted them in advance of Toy Fair in New York, where we scout for the hottest new toys.

  • Blume dolls are finally available for purchase, and we imagine they will be flying off shelves, so act fast.

Toy trends come in cycles, and right now these things are hot: Toys that "emerge" from some kind of covering (like an egg). Toys that have some kind of surprise factor, where you can cross your fingers and hope for rare and super-rare varieties and try to collect them all. Toys that come bundled with lots of cute accessories.

Enter Blume dolls, which are all of this rolled into a flower pot. You get the pot, add a few drops of water, and - surprise! - the doll "blooms" before your eyes. The first glimpse you get is of some kind of fabulous hairdo; some of the dolls have hair that looks like waves, rainbows, ice cream, flowers, and crystals. Then, kids can open the pot, which transforms into a playset for the dolls and accessories.

Cute, right? Now kids might love the surprise and collectible aspects of Blume, but here's what parents like about it: It's fast and easy. No sitting around, waiting, and working for it to emerge. It's also pretty mess-free, since the pot becomes part of the toy - something you can decorate with stickers! - so the whole package doesn't generate too much trash. And finally, the price: Each Blume doll will cost $10. (Phew!)
