Bluesign Unveils New Public-Facing Guide

Bluesign is peeling back another layer of the textile supply chain.

The Swiss material verification firm unveiled this week the Bluesign Guide, an open-access database of all 75,219 Bluesign approved articles by its system partners. Bluesign works with companies to eliminate hazardous chemicals from their production by offering greater oversight through visits to their facilities and the creation of action plans to improve chemical management.

The guide is available to all with no registration or required login—a move the company said is to foster rapid adoption of sustainable materials and practices across industries. Users can filter their searches by textiles and accessory types, company name and country/region. Information for each item includes the article number, system partner name and region, and a product description provided by the supplier.

Bluesign said the launch of the guide reflects its “unwavering commitment to building a more sustainable future and empowering both businesses and consumers in making informed decisions.”

Companies listed in the guide can benefit from increased exposure to existing and potential new clients. The guide allows for the integration of direct links within company communications, a feature that is designed to enhance the way companies share their up-to-date sustainable news with their audience.

The guide also utilizes QR codes to streamline the verification process.

The guide complements Bluesign Cube, an online platform that acts as a database and matchmaker for chemical suppliers, manufacturers and brands to find partners within the Bluesign network. It includes data from over 25,000 chemical product risk assessments combined with over 2,000 company site assessments.

In July, Bluesign introduced “Bluesign Denim: A Sustainable and Responsible Choice,” an initiative to broaden its pool of possible partners beyond fabric producers. It encourages manufacturers and laundries to undergo a Bluesign assessment to become a system partner using Bluesign-approved chemistry.
