Bluebell Festival held at Allerton this weekend

MONTICELLO, Ill. (WCIA) — Allerton Park is holding its first-ever Bluebell Festival this weekend.

The Bluebell Festival is set to run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The full schedule can be found on Allerton’s website.

Visitors will be able to see the colorful bluebells and hear live music.

There’s no cost to attend the festival, but several workshops require a fee and pre-registration.

Some events at the festival include the 11th Annual Plant Sale, food trucks and a cash bar. Inside, the 1900s-era Mansion will have demonstrations from The Farms instructors and art sales.

Wineries push for Illinois bill allowing for more wine production, self-distribution

“Visitors can come to the Mansion for free and walk around and observe how wool is spun, or cookie decorating, or weaving,” said Allerton’s Senior Program Coordinator Olivia Bunting. “There will be a lot of things to view, and visitors will also be able to ask questions of instructors and get a feel for what you can learn at The Farms folk school.”

The goal of the festival is to raise $25,000. All money fundraised will support The Farms, the first folk school in Illinois located in Allerton.

Officials hope the festival becomes a spring version of their Holiday Showcase.

“We’ve gotten feedback over the years about how well the Holiday Showcase is attended,” said park Associate Director of Retreat Center and Programming Jordan Zech. “So this is a similar concept, with vendors on site, and there is an indoor-outdoor component as well; and we’ve always had people suggest we replicate that format.”
