  • Blue Ivy Carter, the seven-year-old daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, sings in her mother's new documentary, Making the Gift, which shows the creative process behind her Lion King-inspired album, The Gift.

  • The sweet footage shows Bey writing down the lyrics and singing them with her daughter on the couch before Blue takes to the mic.

  • Blue sings "Brown Skin Girl," a standout track from the album that's earned praise for celebrating women and girls of color.

Blue Ivy Carter is yet again the unexpected star of one of Beyoncé's projects. The seven-year-old appears in the singer's Making the Gift documentary, which premiered on ABC tonight, and stole viewers hearts in one scene where she records her vocals for her mother's celebrated track, "Brown Skin Girl."

The footage offers a rare, intimate moment between Beyoncé and her firstborn as she sits with her on the couch, writes the lyrics down, and sings to her, teaching her the melody. Blue turned out to be a fast learner. In the next frame, she's up against the mic singing softly but confidently. Bey holds the lyrics up beside her, but the young musician doesn't need them.

Making the Gift shows the creative and collaborative process behind making The Lion King: The Gift, the 27-track album inspired by the iconic Disney movie, which Beyoncé released in collaboration with a number of African artists, producers, and musicians. "Brown Skin Girl," which features a Blue Ivy solo at the end, has especially received love from listeners because it celebrates women and girls of color. The documentary even included viral video clips of parents who've sung this song to their daughters.

In addition to foreshadowing a prosperous future for Blue Ivy in the recording booth, Making the Gift also included endearing moments of Beyoncé with husband Jay-Z and two-year-old twins, Rumi and Sir.

The bonding moments between Bey and Blue take the cake, though. At one point of the film, the singer included a sweet selfie video of herself lip-syncing "MOOD 4 EVA" with the seven-year-old. There was also footage of the mother-daughter duo wearing matching pink outfits and sunglasses, and a clip of Blue dancing freely by herself.

We'd happily watch an entire documentary of Knowles-Carter family home videos.
