Broadway and television star Nick Cordero has been fighting an ongoing battle with COVID-19 and related complications since he was hospitalized in March.
Last month, Nick underwent surgery to amputate his right leg.
After more than a month of being in a medically-induced coma amid his battle with COVID-19, Nick Cordero has woken up, his wife Amanda Kloots revealed in an emotional Instagram story on Tuesday.
With her and Nick's 10-month-old son, Elvis, in her arms, Amanda told friends, family, and fans: "Dada is awake. He is awake, guys."
"I asked the doctor today, ‘Can we say he’s awake?’" she continued. "He is awake. It’s just that Nick is so weak right now that even opening his eyes, closing his eyes, takes out, like, all of his energy."
She added that while the road to recovery will be "very long," Nick is already showing signs of improvement. "He is following commands which means mental status is coming back!" she wrote in her Instagram story.
Amanda celebrated the good news with a photo of herself kissing Elvis, alongside the caption, "Kisses for Dada! #nickiswoke."

TV fans may recognize Nick, 41, from his recurring roles on Blue Bloods (as mobster Victor Lugo), and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, but he is also a Tony Award-nominated Broadway actor.
Nick has been fighting COVID-19 for more than a month. On March 30, he was rushed to the emergency room following his diagnosis, and two days later, he was put in a medically induced coma. In April, he had to have his leg amputated after struggling with blood clots.
"It came down to a point where honestly it was life or leg, and we had to choose life,'' Amanda told the Today show after the surgery. "I choose life."
Amanda, a former Broadway dancer and Radio City Rockette-turned-fitness trainer, has been a force of positivity throughout Nick's battle, launching the viral hashtag campaign #WakeUpNick to support her husband.
We are so overjoyed that Amanda's prayers have been answered and we wish Nick a safe journey to recovery!
