"On My Block" Season 2 Teaser Video and First Look Photos Hint That Ruby Is Still Alive

After nearly a year of anticipation and continual social media theories regarding the shocking finale, we now know that new episodes of On My Block will officially return later this month thanks to a new teaser video from Netflix later this month. Ahead of the beloved series's premiere, Teen Vogue has an exclusive first look at some images from season 2 of the captivating series. As the photos and the preview video show, this season is sure to be filled with unexpected surprises: including the return of a character we thought we'd never see again.

At the conclusion of season one, the fate of Ruby Martinez, portrayed by actor Jason Genao, was unknown. In a surprising cliffhanger, the high schooler became the unintended target of an act of violence after being shot by Latrell. Fans were left totally stunned, and as the show's creators revealed in an interview with TV Guide, what would come next for the character was meant to remain a mystery until season two. However, today's preview video announcing March 29 as the premiere date of On My Block season 2 also confirms that Ruby is still very much alive.

The video shows a slew of young people lost to violence in the community and the people that they've left behind. Near the end of the teaser we see Ruby's family, who is overcome with emotion after seeing a photo of him. It then cuts to a shot of Ruby in what appears to be a casket, who then suddenly opens his eyes. It seems pretty clear that the beloved character isn't gone forever.

In this first look at season two, we also see that Ruby will be returning to classes with his friends. Although he appears to be lying in a casket with a suit on in one image, he's later pictured alongside Monse Finnie (Sierra Capri), Jamal Turner (Brett Gray), and Cesar Diaz (Diego Tinoco). The image appears to show just another ordinary day of classes, the other photos in this sneak peek hint at new episodes full of drama, fun, and even danger.

Along with a picture of Jamal and Jasmin (Jessica Garcia) sharing a lunchtime agenda that reads "Cleaning the Green," additional stills show Monse helping Cesar with a serious looking injury, Cesar waiting in the dark for something or someone, and there's even a picture of Jamal with a lot of cash and a sandwich. And while we're more than ready to begin theorizing about what these pictures and the teaser video could mean for the future of these Los Angeles teens, On My Block continues to prove that we can never truly know what's coming next.

On My Block season two hits Netflix on March 29.
