As Gwen Stefani hit the Grammys red carpet wearing a Dolce & Gabbana mini dress covered in sea shells, she looked as though she had just emerged from the actual ocean.

The No Doubt front woman's look was inspired by her best accessory: singer-songwriter boyfriend Blake Shelton.

"Look at all the shells, isn't this amazing?" Blake asked Ryan Seacrest on E!

"You guys, I got to come to the Grammys with Blake Shelton," Gwen gushed. "SHELL-ton. Get it?"

"I can hear the ocean in there," Blake said as he held up his ear to Gwen's dress. "I can hear the ocean."

It's incredibly unclear if what Gwen said next was a joke or not, but her dress was apparently an homage to Blake picking up shells for her.

"Basically, Blake has been gathering shells over the last four years since we met," she revealed to Seacrest.

"I saw him out there with that metal detector, as well, looking for rings in the sand," Seacrest chimed in without missing a beat.

"This is actually Dolce & Gabbana, but they did use some of the shells that Blake collected for me over the years," Gwen claimed.

"I don't know whether to believe that or not," a skeptical Seacrest admitted. "Is that true?"

Seacrest then asked Blake to point to the exact shells he had picked up for Gwen.

"Of course, man. Actually, some of these still have creatures in them," Blake said deadpanned. "We didn't have time to clean them all out perfectly. We were in a hurry."

This wouldn't be the first time that Gwen has drawn fashion inspiration from Blake, who apparently secretly moonlights as her stylist. Gwen spilled the tea last month when she posted a video documenting her attempt to find the perfect outfit for the Voice finale to Instagram.

Blake and Gwen will make history later Sunday night when they perform on the Grammys stage together for the first time. The happy couple will croon the love song “Nobody But You,” which appears on Blake's new album, Fully Loaded: God's Country. "Lookin' in your eyes now, if I had to die now / I don't wanna love nobody but you / You," they sing in the chorus.

Blake also revealed on the red carpet that the song wasn't originally written to be a duet.

"Once we listened to it, we realized it's actually a perfect duet," he told Seacrest. "You know, especially for us. And the lyrics of the song — it just fit our story perfectly."

Does it open the door to an album together? Fans will be sad to hear that the answer was a joint "no" from both halves of the music power couple.

"But we have done a lot of music together, actually considering we have only known each other for a few years," Gwen said. "We wrote two songs together, so that's a lot because he never does that."
