Blake Shelton Sang a Wynonna Judd for an Instagram Challenge and He Sounds Amazing
Last week, Tim McGraw started the #DeepCutsChallenge on Instagram to encourage his followers and fellow artists to perform their old favorite songs while stuck at home.
After The Voice coach Blake Shelton was recently challenged by Carly Pearce, he shared an IGTV performance of a personal Wynonna Judd favorite.
Country artists are getting creative when it comes to at-home activities, from Instagram Live concerts to Q&A sessions with fans. Last week, Tim McGraw took to his own Instagram to challenge his fellow country artists to perform a personal favorite "deep cut," or a lesser-known song that didn't quite make it to the top of the charts.
"Who's got cool songs they've always loved to play when they’re sitting around the house or when u were in high school or college?" Tim asked in his post on March 20.
The 52-year-old singer proceeded to play John Schneider’s “Take the Long Way Home,” and challenged Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, and Brad Paisley to submit songs next. (While we haven’t heard from them yet, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Darius Rucker, and Vince Gill have joined in on the fun.)
Fast forward to this week, and The Voice coach Blake Shelton is the newest participant in Tim's #DeepCutsChallenge, after Carly Pearce tagged him in her own video. (The two artists toured together in 2018.) Blake posted this fireside video as his submission on Tuesday, March 31.
Blake explained that he is currently "on quarantine" in Oklahoma, and gave his followers a little background before launching into the song: “Gwen told me that I had a challenge from Carly Pearce and I’m not sure what that is, but she said Carly was doing a really awesome Patty Loveless song," he said. "And I’m not going to back down from a challenge from you, Carly."
He announced that he would be singing "Only Love," a 1993 song by Wynonna Judd, which he cited as "probably in my top two favorite Wynonna songs." At the end of the clip, he nominated Joe Nichols as the next participant in the #DeepCutsChallenge.
