Blake Shelton will be one of country music's stars to ring in the new year on CBS's New Year's Eve Live: Nashville's Big Bash. But the 47-year-old is hoping that will be his last big hurrah with alcohol. Like millions of Americans, he hopes to cut back significantly in 2024, if not quit altogether.

The former The Voice judge opened up about his relationship with booze in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. "I haven't managed to stop drinking yet. That's been, you know, even cutting back has been hard," Shelton admitted. "I mean, it's a resolution though. And I'll say it again right now—that's my New Year's resolution, is to either cut back or stop drinking altogether. Let's just say I said it."

Even for those who don't plan on giving up alcohol completely, there are a number of health benefits that can come from participating in at least a Dry January. By taking a 30-day break from drinking, most people report better sleep, feeling less anxious or stressed, increased energy, and an improved immune response. Not to mention, think of all the money you'll save on your bar tab.

"Alcohol is a neurocognitive depressant, meaning it depresses the central nervous system. Over time, it can negatively impact nearly every system in the body," Abe Malkin, M.D., told Men's Journal. Malkin is a family medicine physician and medical advisor at Monument, a digital alcohol treatment platform.

"The benefits of sobriety can become apparent in just a few weeks," Malkin added. "Like during a sobriety challenge."

In either case, best of luck to Shelton on whichever path he chooses.
