Blake Lively trolls Ryan Reynolds on his birthday — by posting a photo of her ex Ryan Gosling

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are always playful on social media — and that included a birthday post the Gossip Girl alum put up Monday for the Deadpool actor’s 41st birthday. It was a 2016 photo of Reynolds with fellow Canadian actor/heartthrob Ryan Gosling. The humor came to play in the way that Lively cropped the shot — she took out most of her husband and featured all of Gosling.

“Happy Birthday, baby,” Lively, who married Reynolds in 2012, captioned the photo.

Reynolds, who cropped Lively out of his birthday tribute post to her in August, loved that his wife got revenge. “Awesome,” was his comment.

That is pretty funny in itself, but making it extra amusing — for us anyway — is the fact that Gosling is Lively’s ex-boyfriend. Back in late 2010 — post-Penn Badgley, pre-Leonardo DiCaprio — she began casually dating Gosling, hitting up Disneyland together for a day date and getting cozy at an after-party for his movie Blue Valentine. Of course, they both moved on — Gosling settling down with Eva Mendes (they have two daughters) and Lively marrying Reynolds (ditto) — but still: a little extra jab.

Lively recently said on Good Morning America that the secret to her happy marriage is … two people who understand what it’s like to be in the strange world of showbiz.

“It’s nice to have somebody who understands what you’re doing,” she said. “Especially because our job is so weird — we have to, you know, like be married to other people, and it’s all so strange. It’s still strange. It’s never normal, even when we’re both doing it.”

Clearly sharing a similar sense of humor is another plus.
