Blake Lively Talks About Her Met Gala Dress and “Sexy Mom” Jewelry at Barneys Pop-Up Celebration for Tod’s
“I’m very comfortable,” said Blake Lively in a weathered gray suede suit from Tod’s. The actress was a co-host alongside Barneys New York’s Daniela Vitale and Tod’s Diego Della Valle to celebrate the Italian house’s pop-up at the New York retail giant. “There’s a timelessness,” added Lively who shared that she only felt like a proper New Yorker when she snagged a pair of the brand’s signature Gommino loafers. “I felt grown up and sophisticated.” Adding to that fashion evolution has been Lively’s repeated appearances on the Met Gala red carpet (she’s attended seven times). “This year’s may be my favorite dress ever,” shared Lively, careful to not give too much away. “They’ve already worked on it for 600 hours and it’s not done.” And last night, Lively debuted armfuls of jewels befitting fashion’s big night. “I’m always aching for jewelry,” shared Lively who showed off her latest acquisition, an evil eye bangle by friend, Lorraine Schwartz. “She’s looking at the beading of my dress and designing a piece based on that,” added the actress on her sparkling accents for May 7th. Lively also explained what “sexy mom” jewelry is: “Things that are sentimental,” shared the actress who cited pieces from Jennifer Meyer and Jacquie Aiche as favorites.
It’s that directional thinking that made her the perfect co-host alongside Vitale and Della Valle. “She doesn’t seem to have an approach,” said Vitale. “She always seems like Blake Lively. That’s what we’re about.” Adding to that was Della Valle who was greeting guests including Richard Gere, Candy Pratts Price, and countless others. “Tonight we are in the center of the world,” said the president and CEO of the fashion house. “We consider [Blake] one of the chic women of the world. Superwoman with good taste.” As for why Tod’s pieces bring out so many stylish fans? “When you touch [it], it’s like [a] pashmina.”
