The country is in a collective state of of self-isolation as we try to protect ourselves and our loved ones from coronavirus, and it’s easy to feel helpless—especially knowing that vulnerable members of society are most at risk. While it might seem like there’s little we can do from home, making a donation to charities that help feed high-risk communities is a great way to help. If you’re looking for some inspiration, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds just donated $1 million to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada.
“COVID-19 has brutally impacted older adults and love income families,” Ryan wrote in a statement on Instagram. “Blake and I are donating $1 million to be split between FEEDING AMERICA and FOOD BANKS CANADA. If you can give, these orgs need out help. Take care of your bodies and hearts. Leave room for joy. Call someone who’s isolated and might need connection.” He ended his post on a lighter note, writing “Hugh Jackman’s # is 1-555-😢-HUGH.”
Blake also posted to Instagram, writing, “Though we must be distancing ourselves to protect those who don’t have the opportunity to self-quarantine, we can stay connected. Remember the lonely and isolated. FaceTime, Skype, make a video. Remember the love that can travel through all this. Communities are stepping up—shopping for the elderly, making lunches for children. We can all do something for one another, even if that’s simply staying home.”
