Blackstone Group’s Former CIO Lists His Connecticut Mega-Mansion for $47.5 Million

This newly listed French manor may be in Greenwich, Connecticut, but it’s got a hefty dose of European elegance.

James Mossman, the former chief investment officer of the private equity firm Blackstone Group, has put his Greenwich estate up for sale after 15 years. Asking a whopping $47.5 million, the 11,300-square-foot mansion is currently one of the most expensive to hit the market in Fairfield County. According to records, the retired financier bought the waterfront parcel back in 2012 and tapped architect Mark Finlay and builder Hobbs, Inc. to erect the six-bedroom, seven-bath trophy house, a feat that took three years to complete.

“If duplicated today, the replacement cost would be likely over the current asking price, assuming you could even find a buildable, elevated waterfront site,” listing agent Joseph Barbieri of Sotheby’s International Realty told The Wall Street Journal.

The lavish abode sits on a whopping two acres of land within Mead Point, a coveted gated community in Greenwich. Featuring a lovely stone exterior and blue shutters, the stately Colonial-style residence offers stunning views of the Long Island Sound, a sparkling 72-foot infinity pool and pool house, formal gardens, plus a private boat dock.

The library has a fireplace, wood paneling, and plaster tracery ceilings.

Mossman tapped G2 Design to deck out the interiors with tons of high-end finishes and fixtures. For example, the game room sports steel wall coverings, tatami mat ceilings, and suede galore. Elsewhere, a paneled library is adorned with an elaborate plaster tracery ceiling and antique Tibetan doors that open to a private office. There’s also a guest bedroom kitted out with a Japanese soaking tub and grass-cloth wall coverings.

Of course, a place this big is packed with amenities. Think of a tropical plant-filled glass conservatory, a gym, a wine cellar, and even a gift-wrapping room. While Mossman’s previous Greenwich estate had its own hockey rink, this home is capped with a rooftop hot tub, which you’ll likely get more use out of.
