But, who is Blackbeard and what does he have to do with the Pogues in season four? Read ahead for everything we know.

Who is Blackbeard/Edward Teach on Outer Banks?

At the end of season three, John B, Sarah, JJ, Kie, Pope, and Cleo head back to the Outer Banks and enjoy a rare sense of serenity 18 months after they collected the precious treasure in the City of Gold, El Dorado. The Pogues attempted to live low-key lives for the time being, but it likely won't last long as John B gets presented with a manuscript and a proposal to find treasure in the diary of someone named Edward Teach.

Edward Teach, also known as Blackbeard, is a real-life pirate that allegedly sailed the West Indies and the Caribbean during the late 1600s, per the Royal Museum Greenwich. The museum notes that Blackbeard was most known for his $12.5 million treasure that he left behind after his ship was attacked by the British Royal Navy in 1718. The pirate was killed when the British Royal Navy beheaded him in November of that same year.

Legend has it that the treasure is still lost and was likely left behind in Ocracoke Island in North Carolina or Charleston, South Carolina, which are both in the Outer Banks region.
