Black joy, or the general well-being and happiness of a Black person, is, in its own right, a political act. Whether you’re a budding ally who can’t yet find the words to say to your Black friends, or you’re in need of filling up your space as a declaration that Black Lives Matter, there are a ton of Black joy products you can buy. And of course, they’re all Black-owned.

If you really want to tell your Black loved ones that you “see” them, you’ll want to know where to look. A lot of media, merchandise and everyday visuals are lacking Black bodies and imagery that Black people can relate to. And during tense times like these, it isn’t enough to post a black square on social media to show your support. However, making an actionable effort, like sending a gift to represent them while simultaneously buying Black, is one small, but powerful way to do so.

You may not realize it, but Instagram is a breeding ground of small Black-owned merchandise brands. One brand that’s all over the platform and prides itself on offering some of the cutest Black joy products is Legendary Rootz, a women’s lifestyle brand founded by Raven Nicole. The brand is known for creating tech products, women’s, men’s and children’s apparel, with imagery and messaging to empower and represent Black people.

But, it doesn’t stop there. There are a plethora of Black-owned businesses to shop Black joy products on Etsy, too. From Black nurses printed on water bottles to a Black King nutrition facts coffee mug, you can find nearly any home product with Black excellence written all over it.

If you want to go out of your way to shop a gift that’s more meaningful, brands like The Wrap Life offer a bunch of cute, Afrocentric head wraps you can send to your friend. And because it’s also Pride month, think about shopping something that represents your friend’s multifaceted identity. It can literally be as simple as this “Intersectional Necklace” by the Brownie Points Company. Even my own editor got me this cute little Afro pin from Volta a while back, and I still cherish it to this day.

Ahead, I’ve put together a list of some Black joy products you can shop right now to support Black people.
