Ali Colé’s motto is simple — “Clean beauty made to celebrate melanin-rich skin” — and it delivers on this mission and then some. Founded by Diarrha N’Diaye-Mbaye, the brand became a staple for Black beauty influencers who raved that its small and thoughtfully curated product lineup carefully provides a solution to the lack of inclusive shades in popular makeup products.

Its Skin-Enhancing Tinted Moisturizer comes in six stunning shades for light and medium complexions to richer and much deeper skin tones. Users and influencers both say it leaves a natural finish that’s hard to come by with most complexion products.

2. Danessa Myricks Beauty

Danessa Myrics, a self-taught makeup artist, developed her beauty brand to allow everyone to customize and explore beauty without boundaries. With this in mind, she created products that work with each other and other products and are multi-use on different parts of the face.

The brand’s Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder went viral on TikTok for giving the face an instant blurring filter while keeping the skin looking like skin. It comes in 10 shades and one translucent universal shade and continues to sell out long after its rise to TikTok fame.

Maeva Heim founded Bread Beauty Supply in 2020 to help simplify the hair routines of “naturalistas” everywhere. Based on the massive positive reception of the brand, she succeeded.

With a carefully curated small collection of hair care products like leave-in conditioning creams, hair mud masks, scalp serums, hair cleansers and more, Bread Beauty Supply took the guessing game out of hair care shopping for many folks with natural and textured hair.

The brand’s best-selling product remains its Hair Oil Everyday Gloss, which won Allure’s 2020 Best of Beauty award. It’s perfect for damaged hair, restores hair shine and health and earned the coveted “Clean at Sephora” label.

Julian Addo named this popular hair care brand after her traditional name, adwoa. Born in Monrovia, Liberia, to a Ghanaian father and Liberian mother, she carries on her African heritage in this brand that merges a passion for African hair, beauty, design, marketing and arts.

Today, adwoa beauty is a hair care staple for many people with different hair types and textures. Its Boamint Deep Conditioning Treatment is one of Sephora shoppers’ favorites, thanks to its versatile and clean formula. It also works wonders for flaky and dry scalps!

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna is one of the best-known Black and female-founded beauty brands in history. The Bajan musician and entrepreneur revolutionalized the makeup space after launching the brand’s flagship liquid foundation product in over 40 shades — a range attempted by no major brand in decades.

While Rihanna conquered the makeup market with the brand’s best-selling complexion, lip, eyes and cheek products, she surprised everyone with the launch of a Fenty fragrance.

When it first launched, it sold out in minutes. Today, the unisex, floral scent with notes of magnolia, musk and Bulgarian rose is finally back in stock at Sephora.

6. Topicals

Faded Serum for Dark Spots & Discoloration, $38

The origin story behind the women-founded and Black-co-founded brand Topicals is one for the books. In August 2018, a then-21-year-old Olamide Olowe went on a mission to create a skin care brand for women that tackled chronic skin conditions after struggling to find problems that helped her own skin.

After co-creating a beauty brand called Shea Girl, in partnership with Shea Moisture, Olowe had the business acumen to make her dream come true. In just two years, she connected with her co-founder Claudia Teng, and the two teamed up to raise $2.6 million in venture capital funding to develop Topicals.

Luckily, it all paid off as it remains one of the most popular and sold-out skin care brands across the Gen-Z and millennial markets, and TikTok can’t stop raving about its Faded Serum. It’s super hydrating while working overtime to clear blemishes, acne and dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

7. Hyper Skin

Brightening Dark Spot Vitamin C Serum, $58

Hyper Skin founder Desiree Verdejo dealt with acne and hyperpigmentation during her teen years and understood the struggles Black folks with deeper complexions faced when trying to achieve clear skin. With this in mind, she launched the skin care brand to create formulas that treated a wider range of skin tones and skin types.

The brand’s best-selling Brightening Dark Spot Vitamin C Serum contains a whopping 15% vitamin C and a blend of additional brightening ingredients like licorice and bearberry and acne-treating ingredients like salicylic acid.

8. 54 Thrones

Plant-based botanicals like herbs, oils and roots (staples in Nigerian culture and African beauty traditions) power 54 Thrones’ skin care products. Christina Tegbe founded the brand in 2015 to amplify the message that African beauty practices have worked for generations.

Its African Beauty Butter Collection Deluxe Tin features five of the brand’s best-selling butters that work perfectly as hand creams and body lotions.

9. FORVR Mood

Soft Life Candle, $38

Well-known beauty influencer, YouTuber and lover of all things luxury Jackie Aina founded FORVR Mood and described it as a lifestyle brand that makes “luxe” affordable. She certainly delivered with these candles.

With names like Cuffing Season, Cookie Coma, Floral Play, Sip Happens, Skinny Dipped and more, there are arguably no candles like these on the market. However, its limited edition Soft Life Candle is currently available at Sephora and smells as good as it looks.

With warm and spicy notes of cinnamon, buttercream and sugar, this will make your living space smell expensive and sweet.

10. RIES

The Essential Refillable Travel Container, $15-$18

Ries is one of the most revolutionary and necessary brands on this list. The brand, the first reusable travel bottle partner to launch at Sephora, was founded by Megan Graham, who was once the beauty market director at Vogue.

Both practical and sustainable, Ries meets travelers where they are, with Graham telling WWD that she sought to build a brand that was “built for functionality” and constant use as opposed to the “single-use, cheap and inexpensive virgin plastics” that so many other toiletry bottles provide.

The brand’s Essential Refillable Travel Container is one of its best sellers and features a refillable design with a leak-tight dual locking system and an airless pump design. Choose from standard and mini sizes with pre-labeling available, so you know exactly what products are in which container.
