Eying an Apple Watch, whether for yourself or someone else? Even if you weren’t, you should consider it for the iPhone user in your life, as now’s a good time to save some money. The brand’s latest batch of smartwatches — the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 — just hit the market, and we’re seeing discounts approaching $100 thanks to Black Friday deals. There’s savings to be had on other models, too, including the second-generation Apple Watch SE. If you or someone you know has been eyeing an Apple Watch, retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart are offering the best discounts.

But which Apple Watch should you buy? There are three current models available in various sizes, plus older generations at even more affordable prices. In general, you should purchase the Apple Watch that fits your preferences and budget. It’s always nice to own the latest model, but the Apple Watch Series 8 is still excellent despite being over a year old. That’s because it offers powerful health tracking, a sleek design, and the latest software (watchOS 10). These features combine to make it our favorite fitness tracker for iPhone users.

That said, of course picking a model from the current generation will ensure you get the experience with the most bells and whistles while receiving new software updates from Apple for several more years. Apple Watch Series 9 Sales

The Apple Watch Series 9 is the brand’s newest wearable and represents the best mainstream entry in its lineup. It features a faster S9 System in Package chip, resulting in faster performance and support for a neat double tap gesture. The gesture makes it possible for users to control many of the watch’s most common actions by tapping the index finger and thumb of their watch hand together. It also offers a brighter, 2,000-nit display and some Siri requests that process on the device (instead of needing to route through a phone), including accessing the Health app.

The Apple Watch Series 9 is only a couple of months old, but Walmart is offering the GPS model in the 41mm sizing for $329 ($70 off) or the larger 45mm design with GPS for $359 ($70 off). Walmart is also discounting the 41mm GPS + Cellular model by, you guessed it, $70. Snagging an Apple Watch with cellular capabilities means the user can leave their iPhone at home and still make or receive phone calls, stream music, and more.

Apple Watch Series 8 Sales

As we mentioned, just because the Apple Watch Series 8 is older doesn’t mean it isn’t worth checking out. The smartwatch isn’t far behind the Series 9 thanks to a powerful processor that’s plenty fast. Temperature sensors enable users to track their menstrual cycle and receive notifications if there are any deviations. Meanwhile, other motion sensors support a feature that can detect when a user is in a severe car crash and alert emergency services. These features continue to make the Series 8 a compelling option despite its (relative) age.

It’s worth noting, however, that stock of the Series 8 is becoming scarce, so only specific configurations are available. We found the 41mm Series 8 with GPS and Cellular at both Walmart and Best Buy. (Walmart’s deal is better, at $174 off compared to Best Buy’s sub-$100 discount.) There’s also the 41mm with just GPS at Walmart if you don’t want cellular functionality.

Those with larger wrists can pick up the 45mm Series 8 with GPS and Cellular for 25% off at Amazon, bringing the price down to $299 from $399, or the 45mm Series 8 with GPS in Red for 23% off, bringing the price down to $329 from $429. Walmart also has the 41mm model with GPS in Midnight for $320, down from its regular price of $399. With the Series 8 no longer in production, Black Friday may be your last chance to find the smartwatch at a discount without buying it used.

Apple Watch SE Deals

The Apple Watch SE is an excellent entry point for those looking to get their first smartwatch. Apple gave the wearable an update at the end of 2022, and the watch now features the same chipset as the Series 8, making it plenty fast for tracking workouts and accessing the brand’s vast ecosystem of apps. However, it has fewer sensors, no always-on display, and a less refined design than newer models. Still, the Apple Watch SE is cost-effective if you don’t mind compromising on more advanced features.

You can save 28% on the second-generation 40mm Apple Watch SE in Midnight at Amazon, bringing the price down to $179 from $249. The 44mm model with GPS and cellular in Silver is 18% off. And Walmart has the 40mm Watch with GPS down $70 from its regular $249, plus the 44mm GPS version at $70 off. Best Buy now, too, has a range of sales on the SE. Apple Watch Ultra 2 Deals

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is for the most adventurous smartwatch users. With a rugged titanium case, the wearable is tough enough to handle all kinds of outdoor activities, including being submerged down to 500 meters. In fact, Apple this year is emphasizing the Ultra 2’s amphibious capabilities, with an Oceanic+ app that shows free dive data like depth, elapsed time, and more. These features are available on top of the watch’s outdoor-centric focus.

Since the Ultra 2 is Apple’s premier smartwatch, and given how new it is, sales are hard to come by. That said, a small discount is better than no discount, and right now the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is down to $774 ($25 off) in certain styles at Walmart and 8% off at Amazon.
