Black Bear Crashes Colorado Wedding Reception, Raids Dessert Table

High-school sweethearts greeted an unexpected wedding crasher at their Colorado ceremony last month.

Cailyn McRossie-Martinez and Brandon Martinez were exchanging vows on July 31 when a black bear made its way into the reception tent and onto the dessert table. Footage shared with 9News shows the interloper calmly snacking on the spread. Security quickly rushes in, flashing their lights at the cub and making loud noises. They reportedly chased the animal off without any injuries sustained.

Just before the bear’s arrival, heavy rains swept through the ceremony, soaking everyone in attendance. When interviewed by the outlet, the Martinezes seemed to have a good sense of humor about the night. They had chosen Colorado as their venue because they wished to be closer to nature, and had gotten just that. Cailyn called it “the perfect Colorado wedding.”

“It’s not too often you go into the dessert table [to] see a bear crashing it,” Brandon added. “Eating all of it!” His wife reported that the bear first feasted on their lemon bars before moving to the platter of cannolis. “We were most looking forward to the cannolis,” Cailyn admitted. “Unfortunately, we did not get any.”

“It’s just kinda how this day ended up playing out, ya know?” Brandon quipped. “There’s just a bear on top of the table.”

Cailyn and Brandon both saw the experience as a microcosm for marriage itself. They’re thrilled with the memorable photos the event produced, and are pleased to report that their first dance went off without a hitch. “Life doesn’t always go to plan,” Cailyn remarked. “But it’s how you get through it together.”
