Every time January rolls around, I get super excited. No winter doldrums or post-holiday blahs here — because January is my birthday month. (For anyone who feels inclined to send me best wishes, the actual date is January 31.) I basically treat the entire month like it’s one long gifting season, and I buy myself… well, a lot. I look forward to 31 full days of treating myself, and this year, I’m focusing my shopping efforts on a host of fashion and beauty products — some routine staples, some I’ve been dying to try for a full year.

Since my budget is more flexible around my birthday, I’ve rounded up seven items I’m eyeing to gift myself this year, from Maison Margiela perfume to cushy APL sneakers (and, yes, I’m having everything gift-wrapped):

Maison Margiela Replica On A Date Eau de Toilette

Maison Margiela’s Replica fragrances have been on my wishlist for awhile now. I love the chic, sexy packaging — something about those typewriter-style descriptions just gets my writer heart racing. I finally settled on the On A Date scent for its notes of grapes and roses surrounded by black currant and patchouli. It comes in three different sizes starting at $35; I settled on the middle one-ounce size for $80, mainly because I plan to use it sparingly to treat myself for years to come. Shoppers say the fragrance is “floral yet sexy and elegant,” and has even become their “go-to perfume for all occasions.”

Ugg Coquette Shearling Lined Slippers

If you’d told me a year ago that I would be obsessed with slippers, I would have given you quite the side eye. But what a difference a year makes. After speaking with a few podiatrists and learning that wearing slippers around the house helps protect falling arches and plantar fasciitis, I changed my tune. While I have a few slippers in my rotation already, there’s just no substitute for the cozy, shearling-lined Ugg Coquette Slippers. My neighbor has a pair, and I’m not exaggerating when I tell you I gaze at them enviously every time we hang out.

I love that the Ugg slippers are designed with a soft suede upper and have sturdy soles that will no doubt be supportive on my hardwood floors. They come in five different neutral hues, including tan, black, olive green, navy, and charcoal gray.

Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream

Tatcha

Tatcha

My love for Tatcha is no secret. Season after season, one of the staples in my winter skincare

routine is Tatcha’s The Dewy Skin Cream. I replenish it in my vanity every year so that it can work to replenish my dehydrated skin. It’s formulated with a host of good-for-the-skin ingredients — hyaluronic acid, red algae, and the brand’s patented Hadasei-3 complex work to hydrate, plump, and soften; squalane seals in even more moisture; and Japanese purple rice provides protection from pollutants and free radicals to combat wrinkles. Anything that promises to drench my skin in dewy, long-lasting hydration is always a yes in my book, and this moisturizer delivers that in spades. Plus, it’s purple, which just happens to be my favorite color. Consider it purchased. (Again.)
