Birmingham's premier antiques and design weekend, Antiques at the Gardens, is set to return this year beginning September 28 and will run through October 1. The show, which benefits the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, features antique dealers of furniture, jewelry, rugs, and garden antiques; speakers from the design, architecture, landscape design, and floral disciplines; and several demonstrations throughout the weekend.

VERANDA Editor in Chief Steele Marcoux will be moderating a panel discussion on Friday, September 29, between Hannah Cecil Gurney, Director of de Gournay (the Design Sponsor for this year's show), Sarah Wetenhall, president and CEO of The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, and Celerie Kemble, principal of Kemble Interiors.

The panel, entitled The Art of Tradition, will focus on how each of these women have chosen to lead their respective brands in a manner that honors their historic design legacy while positioning them as innovative and forward-looking design firms for the 21st century.

Gurney, Kemble, and Wettenhall will also share a behind-the-scenes look at the recent refresh of The Colony Hotel, on which all three firms collaborated. Wettenhall began dreaming up a renovation of The Colony that would preserve its history and traditions while buffing up its reputation for being a design-forward property during the pandemic, when her family temporarily lived at the hotel. She enlisted Kemble Interiors to lead the design and de Gournay to create custom hand-painted wallpapers for The Colony's famed "living room."

Tickets for the panel are on sale now, and all proceeds go to benefit the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The panel will be held at the Botanical Gardens, and a lecture ticket includes general admission for shopping the antiques show throughout the weekend.
