I never want to take off these (actually) stylish and chic Birkenstocks

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there are pretty much two things that people think of when it comes to a good pair of Birkenstocks: High-quality, comfortable sandals that last forever and, well, less-than-cute styles. Look, I love a good Birkenstock; you love a good Birkenstock; we all love a good Birkenstock! But it’s not a crime to say that they’re not cute. (At least they’re not Crocs.)

As someone who loves their (many) colorful rubber Birkenstocks, I refused to shop for the classic leather cork-footbed ones. Remember, they’re not cute. Enter: The new Arizona Big Buckle Birkenstocks.

The brand new style of Birkenstocks is the iconic Arizona sandal with a bigger buckle. That’s literally it. Just a bigger buckle — and it makes a world of difference in the style department. Obviously, I had to see if they were as gorgeous IRL as they were online, so I snagged a pair of the black patent leather ones with a gold buckle. While they come in multiple colors and styles, I figured that black goes with everything.

After owning them for only a week, I can confidently say that, yes, Birkenstocks can officially be a stylish pair of shoes.

ICYMI, the classic Birkenstock Arizonas have two straps and a contoured cork-latex footbed. The Big Buckle version instead features a large, elegant buckle creating a bold yet minimalist design with a wildly comfortable piumato leather insole.

(You can also grab the Big Buckle Birkenstocks at Zappos, Free People, Anthropologie and direct from Birkenstock.)

For me, the shiny black-on-black design was the biggest selling point. Less Portland-crunchy and more New York-chic. (No shade to any Pacific Northwesterners out there; I’m a born-and-bred New Yorker, so I am very biased.)

Despite all of these aesthetic changes, the new Big Buckle Arizona Birkenstocks still have all the special characteristics of the natural leather and suede designs, especially when it comes to the shape of the foot and durability. I mean, that’s why we all invest in Birkenstocks in the first place!

Quick pause to peep the gorgeous olive green color that I was also eyeing:

You can see why I was torn between the two colors, right?

In the past week of owning the Big Buckle Arizona Birkenstocks, I have worn them literally everywhere except for one long Hot Girl Walk™ through Central Park. Not kidding! Here’s everywhere I’ve worn them so far:

  1. Leaving Nordstrom immediately after buying them because I couldn’t wait.

  2. With denim cutoffs and a plain white tee to grab an iced coffee and a bagel in the morning.

  3. Out to dinner with my fiance and my mom with a simple ribbed black midi dress.

  4. To happy hour drinks with a friend while wearing flowy linen pants and a tank top.

  5. Errands, errands and more errands.

  6. To get a pedicure, obviously.

OK, but seriously. I’m shockingly in love with these shoes and can’t wait to own them forever and ever, which is basically the Birkenstock promise.
