Bird Proudly Shows Off Her Eggs to Human Caretaker in Irresistible Video

Motherly instincts help females of many species care for their young before and after birth, which can be incredibly cool to see. Even birds incubate and protect their eggs, just like this beautiful black-throated magpie jay did for her non-fertile ones. In fact, she had some very big feelings when her human caretaker, @thefalc0ner, saw her eggs for the very first time.

As funny of a reaction as she had, it also shows just what a great mother bird she will be one day. She's protective, gentle, and very loud!

Aww! She seems so proud of her eggs, even though they're non-fertile. They're still her babies, and she wants to protect them all the same.

In case you're not familiar with the way bird fertility works (and we don't blame you if you're not), most female birds will lay eggs regardless of whether they've been mating. These eggs, however, will not be fertile unless exposed to sperm before being laid.

As this magpie jay's owner explained in the video, she's imprinted but not mated--so her eggs will not be fertile. Still, she's feeling that maternal instinct to protect them when her owner gets too close!

"I love how gentle she was with your finger to get it away from her eggs," said @snorlaxthepanda. That's such a good point! Despite this colorful bird's loud yelling, she treated her owner's finger so sweetly. We'd like to think she knew he wasn't trying to feel threatening!

All-in-all, this gorgeous black and blue bird seems like an absolute sweetheart. When the right time comes, she'll be a great mama, too!
