Bird Comforts Grieving Mom After She Asked for a "Sign" at Her Son's Grave
Folklore often associates robins with deceased loved ones - which is why one mother's video of a red-breasted robin flying around her son's gravesite is touching the hearts of parents everywhere. Jack Robinson passed away from brain cancer three years ago when he was just 4-years-old. His mother, Marie Robinson of Waterlooville, Hampshire, visits her son's grave every year on April 1, the anniversary of his death.
This year, as usual, Marie made her way to the gravesite, and according to the New York Post, she allegedly asked Jack to "show Mommy a sign." After the visit, she took to Facebook to share a video of exactly what happened at the cemetery.
The Facebook post shows a red robin flying over Jack's grave. She calls out to the bird, and it flew over and landed on her outstretched hand. Amazing! Marie told The Mirror, "A little Robin kept flying around me trying to land on me, eventually landing on my foot - he didn't seem scared at all."
Marie was definitely surprised. "Can't believe what's just happened," she wrote on her post. "Come to see my precious boy Jack just sat down on ground next to him and this happened. Yes, it brought me to tears. Taking it as a sign from jack."
Her words have helped spread awareness about childhood brain tumors, and the post has since received over 225,000 likes and 100,000 shares. Thousands of Facebook users have reached out to her in response, sharing stories of their own experiences with losing loved ones.
"For me it has been butterflies since my husband passed in 2014," one woman commented. "Brought me to tears. I have enjoyed a regular visitor in my garden. I always see it as a sign from my Dad and his name was Jack," wrote another.
Marie replied to the outpouring support with another Facebook post - this time, simply thanking everyone for all the love. "Would like to say if my little robin footage can help raise awareness of childhood brain tumors, cancers, the grief of losing a child then it's a positive thing," she wrote.
Her story is definitely bringing comfort to thousands, and it all began with one red Robin. While you can interpret it however you want, we like to think that the appearance of this red-breasted birds was Jack's way of saying "hi."
