Crikey! It’s Steve Irwin Day today, and Bindi Irwin just shared the sweetest throwback photo of her dad to celebrate.

“November 15 • Steve Irwin Day,” Bindi captioned her post. “To the world, he will be remembered as the greatest Wildlife Warrior. To our family, he will be remembered as our world,” she added, and yes, we are crying, too.

In the photo, The Crocodile Hunter looks at the camera as he hugs a young Bindi, like he’s in the happiest place in the world. Her blonde hair that matches her dad’s is cut into bangs and she closes her eyes as she leans into her dad’s chest. With one hand, she grips his khaki shirt to pull him even closer to her, and the picture fully encapsulates their love.

The comments were flooded with support for the Irwins. “The world loved him and the world loves your beautiful family! Thank you for doing what you do every day. He is proud of you- absolutely not doubt about it,” one person wrote.

Someone else said, “Sending you much Love to you and your family. My family have been watching you grow into the new generation of warrior. Ever since you were born you have been Steves sweetheart, but Australia’s as well. Steve would be bloody amazed at how you have all grown and continued his and your own dream. Thank You for sharing your dad with us ❤️.”

“I must say this is one of the most beautiful pictures of a daughter and a dad,” another person commented. “You can tell she’s making a memory she’s smelling him. She wants to remember this moment forever and never forget…. @bindisueirwin ❤️❤️🙏.” Oh my word that’s precious. I’m all emo now, so don’t bother me the rest of the day!

Steve died in 2006 after being stung by a stingray while filming a wildlife documentary. Since then, his wife Terri Irwin, daughter Bindi, and son Robert have carried on his memory and wildlife conservation efforts, running the Australia Zoo together with Bindi’s husband Chandler Powell (and their adorable 2-year-old daughter Grace!).

Robert also posted about his dad today. “Today, November 15 is Steve Irwin Day,” he wrote. “A day to remember our dad, the greatest Wildlife Warrior on the planet. He was one man who changed the world forever and continues to inspire the next generations.”

The wildlife photographer also shared a throwback video of his dad talking about his legacy. “If there’s one thing that I, Steve Irwin, would want to be remembered for, is be remembered for passion and enthusiasm,” Steve says in the clip. “Conservation is my job. My whole persona. My life, revolves around that. So do my friends, family, colleagues — everyone I know is involved in conservation.”

He added, “If I can’t get animals into people’s hearts, there’ll be no conservation. There’ll be absolutely no love for our wild animals. And that would be devastating. Everything would just suffer and this would be a very ugly world.”

Such powerful words and an important reminder for all of us! If you want to honor Steve’s legacy today, just follow Powell’s advice.

“Happy Steve Irwin Day💚 Today is a good reminder to appreciate our natural world and all of its creatures,” he wrote on Instagram. “Or better yet, enjoy the outdoors together with the ones you love, just like Steve would.”

What a fabulous idea!
