Bindi Irwin Shared the Beautiful Meaning Behind Her Daughter Grace’s Name & The Story Is So Heartwarming

Bindi Irwin’s daughter Grace has a beautiful name, and it’s actually super meaningful, too. The Australia Zoo conservationist explained how she and her husband Chandler Powell came up with their daughter’s four names, and it’ll melt your heart.

In a new Instagram post, Irwin reflects on her 2-and-a-half-year-old’s moniker, which is Grace Warrior Irwin Powell.

“I thought I’d share the story behind our beautiful daughter’s name. Grace Warrior Irwin Powell,” Irwin wrote on Instagram Sunday. “Our graceful warrior.”

She went on to explain that “Grace” is a name taken from Irwin’s great-grandmother, and it also happens to run in Powell’s family too, “dating back to the 1700s.” How cool is that?! Irwin continued, “Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad.” Irwin’s parents, the late Steve Irwin and wife Terri Irwin, started the Wildlife Warriors charity to involve other people in the protection of injured, threatened, or endangered wildlife. So the name “Warrior Irwin” carries on that legacy in a powerful way. (Plus, it’s just a freaking cool name!)

“Her last name is Powell just like her incredible Dada and his family,” Irwin continued. “I think about how much meaning and love was poured into naming the most important part of our lives, our gorgeous Grace.”

Who knew that breaking down a baby name would make me cry, but here we are! (It’s no wonder Irwin got a tattoo of it!) The Crikey! It’s The Irwins star also posted a gorgeous photo with her daughter on Instagram. In it, Bindi is going on a walk in the beautiful outdoors, with a smiling Grace riding piggyback. They are too cute!

Many people commented on the post. “It’s a beautiful name. Your dad would be so proud of her and you all,” one person wrote. Another said, “This is a lovely story Bindi thank you so much for sharing 🫶🏽🙌🏽.”

This isn’t the first time Irwin has opened up about her daughter’s name. In a letter to her little girl published in March 2022 by E! News, Irwin shared, “My first words to you when I held you in my arms were ‘my graceful warrior.’ You are the light of our lives. It makes me smile knowing your best friend is a giant tortoise and watching you spend your days finding magic in everything you come across. Grace Warrior, I love you with all my heart, forever.”

Another person who loves Grace? Her grandma Terri, affectionately known as “Bunny”. She posted a photo with Grace over the weekend, following the toddler as she explored a wooded trail. Grace is forging on ahead with a stick in one hand as her Bunny walks behind her.

Terri captioned the post with the words to Robert Frost’s famous “The Road Not Taken” poem, which goes in part: “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.”

Irwin commented, “I love this so much. ❤️”

Terri is already teaching her granddaughter how to explore the world around her, just like she did with her daughter and son Robert Irwin. This family gives us all the feels!
