Billy Porter’s Take on Executive Realness Is Next Level

If there’s one celebrity who has the most fun with fashion, it has to be Billy Porter. The Pose star—who, it was announced last week will also play the Fairy Godmother in an upcoming Cinderella reboot—has made the red carpet his playground, consistently choosing bold ensembles that are always a moment and never boring. Who could forget his ancient Egyptian sun god look at this year’s Met Gala, or his show-stopping Christian Siriano Oscars gown? Flash-forward to this past weekend, and Porter busted out yet another style statement while speaking at the Condé Nast 2020 summit, where the actor put a bold spin on executive realness.

Porter wore a trompe l’oeil design that made you look twice: namely, a Thom Browne shirt dress that had the outline of a suit printed on top of it. The 3-D drawing featured a blazer, V-neck sweater, and below-the-knee skirt—though the pieces were, of course, all an optical illusion. His look made for a cheeky way to subvert the professional, buttoned-up aesthetic of the conference—something his oversize aviators and gigantic patent bag did as well, the latter complete with the designer’s signature red and white striping. Porter didn’t go without his signature statement shoes, either, wearing a pair of Browne’s lace-up oxfords with cutout wedge heels. Call the whole thing business meets pleasure—emphasis on the pleasure part.
